Get My Ignition Interlock Device Installed

What is an ignition interlock device?

The court may require you to install an ignition interlock device in your vehicle in order to get your license back. Interlock devices prevent a user from starting their vehicle until a breath alcohol test has been taken. An Ignition Interlock Device (IID) integrates breath alcohol testing with your vehicle’s ignition system. The device is located and installed inside the vehicle and close to the driver’s seat. Prior to starting your vehicle, you will need to submit a breath sample into the hand held portion of the device that tests for the presence of alcohol. Once a passing breath sample is provided the ignition will be unlocked and the vehicle can be started like normal.

How much does an ignition interlock device cost?

The cost of an ignition interlock device starts at as little as $3 per day. Keep in mind that the cost will vary depending on the features you are required to have on the device and for how long you need to have the device installed in your car.

Will I be required to install an IID following a DUI arrest?

In most cases, the courts and the DMV will require you to install an interlock device for a first time conviction of a DUI. Most states will require you to install one for a first time conviction as well as other offenses you might encounter after your initial DUI conviction.

Where can I get an interlock device?

If you are required to have an ignition interlock device installed you will have many options on where to get your device installed. There is an extensive list of service centers throughout the United States that will help you install your interlock device. Most all service centers offer same day installation to make the process as easy as possible.
